Mc.Coy Stadium home of the Pawtucket Redsox is a great place to go see a game. They have cheap tickets only $11 and parking is free its also home of baseballs longest game 33 innings in 1980.
Mc.Coy Stadium had some renavations done in 1992 and in 1999,
its also home of the 2004 Triple A All Star Game. Ben Mondor was the owner but after he died a few years ago his wife took it over.
On Monday the Pawsox were sold to a 10 member ownership groul led by who else but Larry Lucchino, for $20million. Rhode Island Lawyer James Skeffington will be the team President. The team will stay two more years at Pawtucket then be moved to a brand new stadium in Providence.
Pawtucket is outraged as the mayor said that they wern't even given a chance to stay at Mc.Coy. The new site will be along the Providence river easy access to the downtown area.
My grandfather worked there for 10 years from 1990-2000 as the clubhouse security guard. Going to Mc.Coy was always fun seeing the players from Boston down in Pawtucket for rehab or just waiting to get called up. It would always be a great tradition in the summer going to the games sitting in section 7, having a doughboy then after going into the clubhouse amd seeing players, Trot Nixion, Nomar, and Mo Vaughn and so on it was always fun.
Theres alot of history and memorable times at Mc.Coy with the longest game, the fireworks, and seeing the 2004 Triple A All Star game the best sporting event I have been to.
If they move to Providence because of the hotels and its closer to the downtown area rather than stay in Pawtucket where it all started then they should keep Mc.Coy amd not tear it down but do something with it weather one of the high school teams use it as their home field. But the tickets won't be $11 and there won't be free parking
So these next two years are maybe the last two years of Mc.Coy Stadium it should be memorable and the Pawtucket Redsox win it all one or two more times before they leave for Providence.
